Care Network Capacity

Many older adults want to age in community but lack the support needed to do so, especially in rural areas. AGE+ supports communities in building and enhancing volunteer care networks to provide a “little help” like grocery shopping, social calls, and light chores. Essential to our model is providing opportunities for older adults to contribute their talents as well.

Circles of Care

AGE+ launched Circles of Care in 2019 in The Dalles to create a volunteer care network by connecting older Oregonians with local volunteers. Through this program, older adults receive assistance with everyday tasks, helping them maintain their independence and improve their quality of life.

This model is designed to be mutually beneficial, as participants not only receive support but also have opportunities to contribute their time and skills. By giving back to their community, older adults build a sense of purpose and strengthen intergenerational connections.

Hood River Circles of Care Transition

AGE+ frequently collaborates on program building and capacity, providing support for a set period before transitioning programs to community-based organizations. In Hood River, we worked with the Hood River Valley Adult Center (HRVAC) to jointly operate Circles of Care. We devised a three-year transition plan with an innovative staffing model, ultimately resulting in HRVAC becoming the sole operator. With the transition now complete, the program continues to thrive with no disruption in services for volunteers or clients, demonstrating the power of collaboration and the strength of our partners.
