AGE+ CEO and Founder, Keren Brown Wilson, presented at the Oregon Place Matters Conference last week. This conference was an opportunity for participants to promote health, and prevent and manage chronic disease across the lifespan. In her presentation, Keren talked about programs and services in Oregon for older adults. She noted how most state services provided for older adults were funded jointly or wholly by federal dollars through Medicaid, and to a lesser extent, by the Older American’s Act. She noted that many essential services such as transportation, affordable housing and better access to chronic care services were both most needed and absent. To counter the effects of organizational silos with separate funding streams, creates opportunities for people to not get what they need and for communities to embrace their own natural helping networks.
