It’s official! AGE+ has commenced construction on senior housing projects in Talent and Madras! During two ceremonies over the past few days, we saw friends and partners gather and dreams many years in the making come true. These projects together create 46 housing units serving older adults at 60% of the area median income. In short, older adults will be able to age in the communities they love, including many in Talent displaced by wildfires.
These events mark the launch of our hybrid, prefabricated construction model that expedites housing production and is well-suited for small and rural communities. By listening to and collaborating with community groups and leaders, we responded to the growing issue of appropriate housing shortages for older adults. As Oregonians continue to live longer, we hope this innovative model serves as a blueprint for the quick and efficient creation of affordable, accessible housing across the state. Whole communities benefit when people of all ages have opportunities to thrive.
Essential to this model are our partnerships with local groups to create community-based supportive care networks called Circles of Care, which are already in the works in these communities.
Thank you to Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) and Meyer Memorial Trust for supporting these innovative projects, and to Mayor Ayers-Flood of Talent and Director Andrea Bell of OHCS for your moving speeches.
